An Inauguration Day Morning Service and Open Studio

  • New Community Church and ArtSpace 614 S Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20001 United States (map)

ArtSpace and New Community Church are opening their doors on January 20, 2017.  Join us in silence, storytelling, scripture reading, meditation, prayer, yoga and art making.

In light of our new political and national reality that's being inaugurated on this day, we will be using the powerful, thought provoking and relevant ancient story included in Michael Meade's book "Why the World Doesn't End - Tales of Renewal in Times of Loss" to weave our time together.  The story is about about an Old Woman who is weaving the most beautiful garment.  She is almost finished, but while she stirs the soup in a great cauldron a black dog awakens and moves to where she has left the garment on the floor. This story appears to be troubled with tragedy and filled with uncertainty but it also hints at new beginnings, renewal amidst the chaos.  Come hear more of the story, share, pray and create.

8am - 9am:  Opening Service in the Sanctuary.  Joanna Andreae is graciously bringing us yoga to complete this special time.

9am-noon:  Open Studio at ArtSpace.  There will be projects for all ages offered during this time as an extension of the story by Michael Meade.  Other materials for poster making and other art will be avialable.

$5 fee - supply donation welcomed.
